Consensus 2022 was a blast, Salesforce enters big, Goodbye Sartoshi š
Dear NFTimer,
Itās interesting times in the NFT space. I know prices are very down, but I want to keep it light and positive in this issue. Title refers to the other popular project āweāre all going to dieā that came in with a narrative. I was at Consensus 2022 for three days, and I gotta say it was pretty great, filled with amazing talent! Iāll recap some highlights, and hopefully you will be inspired to build in this market, rather than watching the charts.
The conference was across the Convention Center, DAO House, NFT Gallery, and Hilton Austin. The Center hosted various panelists and booths. DAO House had conversations with creators of DAOs like UnicornDAO. NFT Gallery featured NFT artists, such asĀ Carly ReillyāsĀ conversation withĀ Sara Baumann, creator of Women of Weapons.
Panels are great too! A lot of people come to crypto conferences and not buy tickets as there are so many satellite events going on. I wonāt be getting one for NFT NYC but it was better to have one for Consensus. If youāre a thinker, creator, or just curious person, you can get inspired by hearing thought leaders speak.
Frances Haugen spoke about how Web2 companies like FacebookĀ knowĀ how their products are causing harm, but they choose not to do it for āvery small margins of profitā. She shared her thoughts on designing algorithms that respect peopleāspeopleās privacy and data dignity and give control to people. She is favorable toward a Web3 social media app.
Neal Stephenson (author of Snow Crash, the novel where he coined the term metaverse) and Jaron Lanier (coined and created virtual reality, big proponent of ethical tech) spoke about the metaverse. Neal announced that he is building a āfree metaverseā called Lamina1. He will not only build the blockchain where others can create their own versions on, but also will have his own metaverse, as he imagines it. Jaron talked about the idea of value chains, and data dignity. They both had positive outlooks, and Jaron emphasized that we should be encouraged to build positive narratives.
I have seen and met so many amazing women!! The best part was definitely the people I have met and got to spend time and have conversations with. In this new space, our space, we can all take the opportunity to get to know each other and share ideas to build the internet we all want, with the values we share. No need to rush, Web3 will be here in time ā letās stop, come together, and have those conversations to make sure we are not repeating the same mistakes.
Ok, so letās see what else happened this week.
