Adidas makes $24M, NFTs on South Park, Nike buys RTFKT 👟
Dear NFTimer,
We are almost nearing the end of the year. It’s crazy how fast 2021 felt… In our crypto world, so much happened this year. You might find a 2021 Review newsletter hitting your inboxes soon. Thousands of people heard of “NFTs” for the first time, but it gained so much heat that it became the word of the year! Since I think and talk about NFTs pretty much all the time, I get a lot of questions from friends and future friends about how they can launch their own NFTs, or what to look at while buying one. I try my best to talk with anybody and onboard as many people as possible to Web3, so here is a thread about valuing NFTs. Let me know what you think of this list.

🔮 Metaverse News
Cryptovoxels listed the last 6 Honolulu parcels.
Adidas launched its “Into the Metaverse” project on Friday. They had 30,000NFTs, of which 20k was reserved for BAYC holders and holders of other partnered projects. I was very excited about this project as I love Adidas, but even though I clicked the moment public mint opened, my gas went to trash, and I couldn’t mint any. While giving allowlist (i don’t like to use the word whitelist) to certain communities makes sense, I am really getting sick of feeling like if I don’t have an Ape, the doors of opportunities are closed. BAYC left its initial mission statement a while ago, but this “elite group” vibe is really putting me off. Not to mention each NFT was 0.2, making the company $24Million. And I wonder why they chose to put 10% royalties. Way too much. Here is the story of how it was developed, by gmoney.
💃🏼 Fashion
Nike bought the digital art studio focused on sneakers, RTFKT.
MetaBirkin, a project of 100 NFTs of faux fur bag jpegs, launched last week. Hermès called it BS, labeling them as “fake Hermès products in the metaverse,” and said these NFTs are trademark infringement.
👾 NFT Games

Sound.xyz raised $5 million led by A16Z. It’s co-founded by David Greenstein, the son of Sirius XM President Scott Greenstein. Sound lets musicians create batches of 25 NFTs for their songs, and sell each for 0.1 ETH. NFTs come with the ability to comment on a certain portion of the song. The artist also designates one NFT as a super rare one that provides some unique utility.
Jonathan Mann takes a page out of Beeple’s book and puts 4730 songs he made for the last 12 years up for sale.
