It’s a good week to be in crypto. Bitcoin is back to $60,000, and Ethereum is closing into $4k, trading around $3,731 at the moment.

You will see when you dive down into the news, but it has been a juicy week. Is it marketplace week? Coinbase NFT got over a million sign-ups, Sotheby’s and FTX also launched their marketplaces.

🎨 NFTs

  • Robopets are coming as a free mint for Robotos holders.

  • The NFT Marketplace aggregator Genie has reached $12 million in trading volume.

  • Botto is a decentralized generative autonomous artist governed by the community. Botto creates 50 art pieces a week and presents them to the community for them to vote on. The top voted one goes on to sale, while the algorithm uses this information to improve. You can change some ETH for the native currency of Botto to participate in voting. 

  • Encryptoland announced a rabbit fellowship for traditional artists from underserved backgrounds looking to learn how to code.

  • Reese Witherspoon tweeted that she bought her first NFT!

  • Bored Ape Yacht Club signs with Guy Oseary, tech investor and music manager of Madonna and U2. The deal comes after the news that CryptoPunks signed with United Talent Agency.

  • Coinbase is soon launching an NFT marketplace with a social feed! Join the waitlist here.

  • An anonymous person who is part of the Generative Art and Art Blocks communities donated around $3.5 million worth of ETH to Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), an international humanitarian NGO offering medical help in conflict zones and in countries affected by endemic diseases.

  • FTX launched its NFT marketplace, and currently is only supporting Solana with Ethereum on the way.

  • GoopDAO minted a collection of nouns artwork, put it to sale, and used the sale proceeds to buy a noun.

  • The project Astraglade is launching Planets, a randomly generated 3D Planet around which the Astraglade will orbit. If you own an Astraglade, you can mint a Planet for free.

  • NFT artist Micah Johnson and Visa launched an initiative to help creators learn about blockchain and NFTs.

  • No, I will not be putting this news story under metaverse news. Sotheby’s launched their own NFT marketplace called “Sotheby’s Metaverse” and I refuse to call it a metaverse! It will most likely onboard more people into the space due to its standing in the art community and since the marketplace accepts fiat money as well as cryptocurrencies.

  • Fox Entertainment invested $100 million into its Blockchain Creative Labs division and just launched a line of NFTs based on their singing competition, The Masked Singer. They gave away 20,000 NFTs in less than a day. Next week, they will launch their marketplace for the holders to trade Masked Singer NFTs. 

  • FTX NFT platform announced that it won’t be listing NFTs that have royalties built within due to regulatory concerns.

  • The latest huge NFT launch, which raised over $60 million in a day, MekaVerse, is gaining heat as some buyers may have early access to metadata; thus the allegations say they could buy rare ones as the NFTs weren’t revealed for days. Here are some tweets from people who did the research: Molotov exposes a developer; Beanie shows some losses; Otto shares some proof; NFTherder compiled a thread; and the developer responds back.

  • Illustrator Steve Simpson is launching a special NFT collection dedicated to World Mental Health Day in partnership with USEUM Collectibles.

🔮 Metaverse News

💃🏼 Fashion

  • Dolce&Gabbana’s 9-piece debut NFT collection, Collezione Genesi, launched in partnership with UNXD and received 707 ETH ($2.1 million) in bids.

👾 Gaming

  • The popular Mexican game Lotería will be turned into a game on the Solana blockchain. Snickerdoodle will do the NFT collectibles, and the artworks will be from Hispanic artists. It aims to launch in December, and the profits from the game will be donated to NGOs focused on educating Hispanic American engineers. You can apply here to be an artist.

  • Last quarter, Axie Infinity became the most traded NFT collection ever, generating over $2.5 billion in trading volume. The rise and rise of Axie.

⚽️ Sports

  • U.K. Gambling Commission wrote in a press release that it is investigating NFT-driven fantasy soccer game Sorare to determine whether Sorare needs a gambling license to continue operating.

  • NFL star Rob Gronkowski is returning to NFTs with a new release on Autograph, co-founded by Tom Brady.

  • Shaquille O’Neal is launching a series of NFTs titled “Shaquille O’Neal: The Eras of Dominance Collection” based on some of his plays on Ethernity. You enter a raffle to win one of the three prizes with each NFT purchase. Prizes include a video call with Shaq, a pair of custom footwear, and a dinner reservation at one of Shaq’s own music festivals.

  • Jambb raised $3.5 million in seed funding to release stand-up comedy video clips from the likes of Hannibal Buress, Maria Bamford, Pete Holmes as collectible NFTs on the Flow blockchain.
